The urbanSHED International Design Competition is sponsored by the NYC Department of Buildings and the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter.

The competition is the design of an innovative, compelling and environmentally friendly proposal to re-imagine temporary sidewalk shed and improve the pedestrian experience.

Currently, more than 6,000 sidewalk sheds flank New York City’s buildings and construction sites. They span more than 1,000,000 linear feet and typically remain in place for over a year. While these sheds protect pedestrians from construction debris, they hide the beauty of New York City’s architecture.
