WAFFLE SHOP
New York, NY
2007
This tiny waffle shop, located in the New York neighborhood of Union Square, possesses a sweetness and warmth, juxtaposed with clean modern geometry. Each element is detailed to enhance the richness of the waffle experience. Deep darkwood wrap the walls up to eyelevel, giving way to crimson and black abstract Belgian graphics. Shelving is a cleanly detailed ¬?-in-thick transparent acrylic. The 20ft ceiling is dotted by bright glass chandeliers. Faced with a tiny floor plan of only 400ft2, Agencie decided to make the best of it and create the feel of a European waffle stand. At the very front of the shop, the storefront glass retracts and a take-out counter/display case opens up to the street. Waffles, marzipan and chocolates are ordered and eaten on the street while still warm and tasty.
